Several young men who allege they were sexually abused by their former St John’s Preparatory School teacher say they are still traumatised a decade after they were allegedly violated.
The alleged incidents happened over a 10-year period while the now 52-year-old was employed at the school.
Victims from the same school have cases in different provinces as the incidents allegedly happened on school outings, including camps.
The former teacher appeared before the Johannesburg High Court for a pre-trial on Wednesday and faces charges including sexual assault, grooming and child abuse.
The mother of one of the alleged victims said her child has never been the same.
"They feel emotional, they feel disconnected, they are angry, all those emotions are there and you are told its teenage behaviour but that's wrong, they are hurt, they hide away and they sit in a space of shame."
