Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says he appreciated the opportunity to tell his side of the story after wrapping up his testimony before parliament’s ad hoc committee on Wednesday night.
Mchunu gave testimony before the committee over four days, where he was grilled by the evidence leader, Advocate Norman Arendse, as well as MPs on his decision to disband the political killings task team.
During his testimony, Mchunu defended his decision and denied having links to crime syndicates.
Mchunu’s appearance will be followed by former minister, Bheki Cele, who will be on the hot seat on Thursday and Friday.
Mchunu, who is currently on a leave of absence, said he’d done all he could to explain his version of events to Parliament.
Over the last four days of his evidence, Mchunu was questioned over his alleged links to questionable people who were implicated in serious crime, like murder-accused Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.
Mchunu’s insistence that the political killings task team be disbanded "immediately" was also a bone of contention for most MPs.
But Mchunu welcomed the conclusion of his testimony.
"I would say the platform has been there and provided and I had an opportunity to say what I wanted to say."
Mchunu’s evidence will be followed by Cele, Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia and police deputy ministers, Cassel Mathale and Polly Boshielo.
