Haven’t been to Cape Town’s CBD in a while? A new initiative hopes to change that.
Cape Town’s city centre is getting a fresh reason to explore, with the launch of Inner City Saturdays.
It's a monthly event aimed at reviving the CBD and it's being spearheaded by The Mission for Inner City Cape Town.
The initiative recognises two main things says co-founder Tim Harris.
"Firstly, the incredible set of independent retailers that we have in the inner city and, actually, independent makers, as well."
Secondly the products on offer, which Harris says are "truly Capetonian".
"They're not like anything you'll find in Dubai, New York or London."
It's this unique product set, combined with the already established 'First Thursdays', that led to Inner City Saturdays.
It came about following conversations with retailers in the inner city, explains Harris.
"They were saying one of our problems is Saturday mornings are a bit dead, we need to find reasons for people to come and support us."
Inner City Saturdays will celebrate its first event on Saturday, 25 October , and will take place on the last Saturday of every month.
Mission for Inner City Cape Town Co-founder Tim Harris spoke to Clarence about their initiative to welcome businesses back to the CBD & the launch of Inner City Saturdays.
