Late PTA taxi boss Msibi identified as head of criminal network that Big Five cartel operates under

Late Pretoria taxi boss Jothan "Mswazi" Msibi has been identified as the head of a criminal network referred to as "The Firm", of which the Big Five cartel operates under.

This was revealed by a member of organised crime who testified before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Thursday.

Witness B formed part of the team uncovering the inner workings of the Big Five cartel, which comprises of Tembisa tender tycoon Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala and murder accused Katiso "KT" Molefe.

Msibi, a well-known and feared taxi boss, died in January 2024, following a short illness.

He’s been accused of being the president of a dangerous criminal network referred to as The Firm and, in some instances, "The Farm".

Witness B told the Madlanga Commission that the Big Five cartel, a syndicate that has allegedly captured the criminal justice system in Gauteng, operates under the umbrella of The Firm.

"Mostly the word 'Firm' you will hear from the hitmen when they talk amongst themselves, saying: 'We are the best in The Firm.'"

She outlined the structure of The Firm: "Mswazi appeared to be president, and the rest are of the executive, maybe the ministers, if I can put it like that, of which formed the Big Five."

She claims The Firm comprised a lot more people, not just members of the Big Five cartel.
