The Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has secured a conviction for the murder of former KwaZulu-Natal Legislature member, Zibuse Mlaba.    

Mlaba, who was also a regent to the Ximba Tribal Authority, was shot and killed in his catoridge home in October 2021.   

One of the accused, Nhlanhla Hlongwa, entered into a plea agreement in the Camperdown Magistrate's Court on Friday and has been sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment.  

Meanwhile, the man alleged to be the driver of a getaway car, Mthobisi Dubazana, was acquitted of all charges.

The PKTT tasked to probe politically motivated murders in KZN has obtained a conviction in connection with the murder of Mlaba. 

The Camperdown Magistrate's Court on Friday convicted Hlongwa for the murder of Mlaba. 

He pleaded guilty, implicating the alleged mastermind, Mlaba, who is a cousin of the deceased.   

Hlongwa also told the court that they did not know the person they killed.   

The court also learnt that the amount paid to carry out the murder was only R1,000. 

The alleged mastermind will now stand trial alone on 7 November 2025.
