The Cape Town International Kite Festival has officially taken to the skies at the Youngsfield Military Base in Ottery.
Now in its 31st year, the festival’s theme, “Courage to Fly”, celebrates the bravery it takes to face life’s challenges, particularly those linked to mental health.
Cape Mental Health organised the two-day event to raise funds for free mental healthcare services across the province.
Communications officer Barbara Meyer said each kite symbolises freedom and courage.
“So, every year, we always invite new kiters from different points, and we invite them so there’s always something new to see. So, we're very excited to get back, and it's a different venue, but different is not necessarily, you know, there’s some really great points there as well.”
