Eight former ActionSA councillors in the City of Joburg have gone to court to stop the party from replacing them.
The councillors were removed from their posts at the end of September, leaving their seats in the city council vacant.
The party reportedly cited poor performance as one of the reasons for their removal.
However, the eight argued that they were not given a fair hearing or a chance to appeal, which they claim goes against ActionSA’s constitution.
Their spokesperson, Elmari Atterbury, said the case isn’t personal, but about fairness and respect for due process.
“Two cease and desist letters were sent to Action SA, urging the partner to hold any replacement process until the dispute was resolved but this was ignored.”
