Former teacher and alleged paedophile Iain Wares has handed himself over to police after years of legal delays.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said he was arrested at the Simon’s Town Magistrates Court on Thursday, under a United Kingdom (UK) extradition warrant.
This is believed to be part of a UK extradition request, charging the 86-year-old with sexual and physical abuse for cases that date back at least five decades.
Wares was formally arrested on Thursday and appeared in court on 90 new charges.
The NPA said this includes 60 counts of sexual assault, four counts of rape, 25 counts of assault and one count of crimen injuria.

The charges relate to alleged crimes committed in the 1960s and 1970s and involved teenage boys in Edinburgh, Scotland, during his time as a teacher there.
Wares has another matter running at the Wynberg Magistrates Court.
He is currently on trial for allegedly sexually abusing a pupil at Rondebosch Boys Preparatory School in 1988.
The case involving the UK victims has been postponed until 20 November to allow Wares to appoint a legal representative to deal with the extradition.
