The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has confirmed that Milnerton High followed due process when incidents of alleged bullying were reported to the school last week.
Its statement comes after allegations that it failed to do so.
Eight Grade 11 pupils were hauled before the Cape Town Magistrates Court last week after being charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The case follows an incident of alleged assault at the school involving the eight accused and a Grade 10 pupil.
Parents for Equal Education spokesperson, Vanessa le Roux, has accused Milnerton High School of failing to act to prevent bullying at the school.
"Was the school deliberate in allowing this to happen because besides that video that went viral, there's two other incidents of videos that we have where it shows how these children are being assaulted."
Western Cape Education Department spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond, insists the school followed protocol.
"The school has followed due process. They immediately reported the allegations of abuse to the WCED."
Hammond said the school would now hold disciplinary hearings before presenting sanctions to the head of the WCED, who will then decide whether expulsion is warranted.
