The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will now turn its focus to the arrest of Katiso "KT" Molefe, who is accused of orchestrating DJ Sumbody’s murder.

The Monate Mpolaye hitmaker was assassinated in 2022, and it later emerged that Molefe allegedly ordered the hit.

Over the past two days, the commission heard testimony from ballistic experts who were deployed to the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

They revealed that the murder weapon used to kill DJ Sumbody was linked to 29 other criminal cases.

Molefe was first arrested in December 2024 in connection with the murder of Vereeniging engineer, Armand Swart.

Swart’s company had exposed irregularities in a Transnet tender that was allegedly awarded to a firm linked to Molefe’s nephew through corrupt dealings.

Molefe was arrested again in July for his alleged role in orchestrating the assassination of DJ Sumbody.

The senior forensic analyst at the South African Police Service (SAPS), Captain Solomon Modisane, told the commission on Tuesday that the firearms used in DJ Sumbody’s killing were also linked to several other high-profile murders.

"I found that these cartridge cases were fired from the same firearm, so they bear a common origin. This specific firearm is a 7.62x39mm calibre, Russian Kalashnikov model AK-47, full automatic assault rifle."

New witnesses are expected to testify on Wednesday morning.
