Shaun Flandorp, from Elsies River in Cape Town, caught on camera a mugger allegedly targeting pedestrians for years. Flandorp said he's known of the mugger operating in the area for decades.

"I have known him for about 20 to 25 years. He has been in and out of jail."

Flandorp recorded the incident over his wall, explaining how he realised the attempted robbery was happening.

"I have a toilet at the back of my yard. So, I was approaching my toilet when I heard cars hooting, which is normal, but as soon as the cars went quiet, I heard people fighting. I stood up and I had my phone in my hand because I was watching TikTok. So, when I climbed onto my fireplace, I saw this guy. I was so upset, but something calmed me. He was busy with this guy's shoes already. He already had the guy's phone and money in his pocket.

"I approached him and told him, 'No, man, this is not right!'. Then, that guy told me he is on his way to work, his first day. I was very cross, but I kept myself calm."

Flandorp appealed to the robber to return the stolen items, making it known that he was recording the attempted robbery. Surprisingly, the robber gave the items back.

He then let the victim jump over his fence and gave him a lift to work.

Flandorp explains why he decided to get involved.

"Things are getting out of hand in Elsies River. No one is helping our children. Our children are getting mugged, our children are getting shot at. No police are visible in the area. For me, enough is enough, man. What if I didn't approach this guy? He could've stabbed this young boy; he could've lost his life.

"The saddest part is, the cars are hooting, but nobody stops. I don't have words. I approached him and made a video so that if something happened, I had proof.

"I don't want anything, I only want the next person to do the same."
