Cape Town's new neighborhood safety officers have again shown their value by taking potentially dangerous weapons out of the hands of a learner and others in Macassar.

On Monday, they were called out to a school, where a pupil was found with a toy gun.

Then, together with police, they were led to a residence where they discovered another imitation firearm and 30 rounds of live ammunition.

A 17-year-old was taken into custody, and they helped officers uncover another imitation firearm, leading to the arrest of a 16-year-old.

Metro police spokesperson, Ruth Solomons: "Initial indications are that both imitation firearms has been modified to discharge live rounds. The suspects were detained at Macassar SAPS."
