Residents of Johannesburg’s CBD, who have been without electricity, will have to endure another day in the dark, with power only expected to be restored on Thursday.
City Power technicians are still working to restore power to parts of the inner city that have been without supply since Saturday.
The central substation recently caught fire and left Marshalltown and the surrounding areas in the dark.
While conducting repairs, city power teams say they also discovered that crucial electrical components from overhead power lines were stolen.
In recent years, Johannesburg CBD has fallen victim to multiple power outages, caused by theft and vandalism of infrastructure.
City Power said overhead power lines running through the inner city were damaged, despite carrying high voltage.
The utility is currently working to replace both the stolen and damaged components.
However, the repairs are expected to delay the restoration of power, which is now only likely to be restored by 8 pm on Thursday.
