With the festive season just around the corner, beachgoers have already been given an early warning about bad conduct across the Western Cape’s beaches.
This includes a call for extra vigilance at the eight beaches that have been awarded with the prestigious Blue Flag status for meeting stringent standards for water quality, safety and services.
The Blue Flag beaches this season include Bikini Beach, Camps Bay, Clifton 4th, Fish Hoek, Llandudno, Melkbosstrand, Muizenberg and Silwerstroomstrand.
The MMC for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, has urged parents to supervise their children in and around water during the festive season.
He said swimming under the influence of alcohol for adults is also prohibited.
“Our lifeguards will be on duty at beaches, and we would like to request beachgoers to please adhere to the safety rules.”
