Two Home Affairs Department officials accused of corruption have been arrested. In separate operations.

One arrest was made at the Pinetown office in KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday after an investigation into a fraudulent death registration.  

The official was caught while attempting to pay a R3,000 bribe to avoid arrest.  

Another official and two members of the public were arrested in Secunda, Mpumalanga, for issuing smart ID cards to unqualified foreign nationals.  

The Home Affairs Department said the latest arrests are part of a broader effort to restore integrity and safeguard national systems.

Minister Leon Schreiber said the department is intensifying its crackdown with arrests, dismissals and disciplinary action now happening almost weekly.  

Schreiber has reiterated a zero-tolerance approach, warning that all officials involved in corruption will be dealt with decisively.

Law enforcement officials have warned that more arrests could follow as the crackdown continues.
