An informal trader who has been trading at Goodwood Mall for more than 40 years said that he's not ready to give up his family's legacy.
Fruit and vegetable trader Ganeef Kamar has been without work for 10 days after City of Cape Town law enforcement officers confiscated his goods on 24 October.
Kamar said more than R10,000 of his stock was confiscated by the city, and after not earning money for more than a week, he has not been able to feed his family.
Forty-one-year-old Kamar left school in grade 7 to work with his father as an informal trader.
The Kamar family has been selling fruit and vegetables in the parking lot at Goodwood Mall for more than 40 years.
Kamar said he was in the process of renewing his trading licence when the city's law enforcement officers confiscated his goods.
"I wasn't there when it happened. When I came back, it was too late. My goods were already loaded on the truck, and it was about R10,000 worth of stock."
City law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason said informal traders in the area were warned to enew their permits on 10 October.
Dyason said after doing another inspection on 24 October, goods from six informal traders who were trading without permits and operating in unallocated bays were impounded near the mall.
