Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia said corruption within the police system is a problem across the world.

He said police corruption and fraud might not be unique to South Africa, but that shouldn’t stop the country from rooting it out in all its forms.

On Monday, Cachalia briefed the Police Portfolio Committee in Parliament on the police’s annual report and audit outcomes.

“Corruption is a problem in police services across the world but that’s no consolation to us. But it needs to be acknowledged and we’re going to need to think about enhancing the strategies and the structures that are in place.”
