On the eve of Guy Fawkes, the City of Cape Town is reminding residents that the discharge of fireworks is only allowed if you have a permit.
It’s also called on residents to report any illegal activity involving fireworks.
MMC for safety and Security, JP Smith, said that residents should call the city’s public emergency communication centre to report any incidents.
"Officers will act if they catch anyone in the act of discharging fireworks, but it is best to snuff it out at the source. So, if you see anyone selling fireworks on the roadside or at corner shops, and you’re not sure they have a permit for it, please do report it immediately."
Smith has also advised pet owners to keep their pets indoors or in a secure, quiet space.
