A KwaZulu-Natal civil organisation, March in March, will lead a protest in Durban on Friday to prompt authorities to urgently address rampant crime in the city.
The demonstration will begin on Point Road in South Beach in the morning, and thousands of people are expected to flock to the area notorious for crime.
On Thursday night, a man was shot and killed in one of the businesses in the area.
March in March leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma said a serious clampdown on crime is needed.
“People are tired of having places that they are not able to go to that are known as no go areas - these places are places that are flooded with people that are not South Africans, places that have become drug hubs, places where a lot of organised crime is taking place.”
Ngobese-Zuma added that a memorandum of demands will be handed over to law enforcement officials.
“The message is clear even to the police themselves. That is why we are sending a memorandum to the police to say that they must do their job.”
