Alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, on Monday told the Western Cape High Court that one of his co-accused, Zane Kilian, was working for his rivals: Mark Lifman, Jerome Booysen, and Andre Naude.

Modack, Kilian, and 13 others face 122 charges for various crimes related to allegedly operating a criminal enterprise. The charges include the murder of top cop Charl Kinnear, who was shot outside his Bishop Lavis home five years ago.

The State alleges that Nafiz Modack used Zane Kilian to "ping" the whereabouts of the slain Lieutenant Charl Kinnear before his murder in September 2020.

State Prosecutor Greg Wolmarans is currently cross-examining Modack about when Kilian started pinging for him.

Evidence shows Kilian was pinging Kinnear and other members of the Anti-Gang Unit in June 2020, as well as alleged underworld figures Jerome Booysen and the now-deceased Andre Naude in March 2020.

Modack denied instructing Kilian to make those pings, saying he only asked Kilian to start working for him in September 2020. He insisted that at the time of the earlier pings, Kilian was working for Booysen and Naude.

"During the trial Kilian confirmed to me that he done work in pinging for Lifman, Andre and Jerome without my knowledge, so I wasn't aware of it. So he would have their numbers at the time, My Lord."

Modack told the court Kilian only started working for him later that year, in 2020.
