Alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, is set to return to the dock in the Western Cape High Court on Monday, where he faces various crimes, including murder, extortion, money laundering and corruption.

Modack and 14 others face a grand total of 122 charges related to an alleged criminal enterprise.

The charges include the murder of top cop Lieutenant Charl Kinnear, who was shot outside his Bishop Lavis home in September 2020.

Prosecutor Greg Wolmarans will on Monday continue cross-examining Modack.

Wolmarans is questioning Modack about three botched attacks on Kinnear in November 2019.

The State is determined to prove Modack was behind the foiled attacks, as well as Kinnear's eventual murder in September 2020.

Modack has proclaimed his innocence since day one of the trial, insisting that corrupt police officers linked to the underworld are behind Kinnear's murder.

Cellphone evidence shows Modack allegedly sent messages to co-accused Amaal Jantjies and Yannick Adonis to plan the attacks on Kinnear.
