Milnerton police arrested six alleged extortionists in Du Noon on Monday night following a successful operation.

The arrests came after officers received a tip-off and headed to a tavern on Dumani Street.

A brief investigation at the scene led officers to the discovery of multiple items, including a firearm that was reported stolen in Sea Point back in March.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk detailed the events, stating: "On their arrival, they found the six suspects drinking and between them was a small green bag and eight cellular telephones on the table. The members then searched the bag and found four firearms with 25 x 9mm rounds. The six suspects were arrested and detained at Milnerton SAPS."

The suspects face charges of possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, and are expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court soon.
