Police say following a surge in violent crime over the weekend, officers have arrested a suspect in connection with a triple murder in Delft on Sunday.
In an intelligence sting, the 25-year-old was apprehended in Delft with a firearm holster and over R7,000 in cash on Monday.
Police spokesperson Ndakhe Gwala said that more arrests should follow as investigations continue.
"They arrested several suspects, including a suspect in the murder case of three people in Sandrivier Street, Leiden on Sunday. The suspect will make his first court appearance in the Belville Magistrates Court once charged."
While patrolling in Delft, police also arrested five suspects for possession of dagga and illicit liquor.
The officers had spotted a group of schoolboys smoking dagga and the pupils pointed them to a house where dagga was being sold.
"The police proceeded to the address in Kaiser Street and while searching, they found dagga trees and 20 5L bottles of liquor. The occupants were not cooperative, and five suspects were arrested for possession of dagga, possession of illicit liquor and resisting arrest."
