Suspended acting EMPD head, Julius Mkhwanazi, was willing to die for former Ekurhuleni city manager, Imogen Mashazi.
In a video from a 2023 Christmas party, Mkhwanazi publicly announced his allegiance to Mashazi.
The video was played before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Thursday, as part of the evidence presented by former Ekurhuleni head of employee relations, Xolani Nciza.
Nciza has testified at length about the political protection Mkhwanazi enjoyed from Mashazi.
During an Ekurhuleni Christmas event in 2023, Mkhwanazi is seen singing and dancing with a handful of others, alongside Mashazi.
During the celebration, Mkhwanazi, who is accused of enjoying political protection from Mashazi, can be seen addressing Mashazi and laying down his life for her.
"We will die for you. Mina, I will take a bullet for you."
Mashazi responds: "Thank you so much."
The video was presented as evidence before the Madlanga Commission by Nciza.
Nciza explained his understanding of the exchange between the pair.
"Mkhwanazi then expresses his gratitude, his loyalty and all sorts of things to say that you know what: 'I will die for you because you are my mother, you have not only secured my continued employment within the municipality but you’ve also advanced me.'"
Mkhwanazi is accused of evading disciplinary action, being shielded by Mashazi, despite several criminal and findings against him.
