President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Friday morning join the CEO-City Clean-Up programme in Kliptown, Soweto.

The initiative, launched by Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero, has brought together leaders in government and ordinary citizens to target inner city sites.

It also comes a few days before the G20 summit and after government departments have reported being on track with preparations to host global leaders.

Earlier this week, Morero launched the CEO-City Clean-Up partnership programme.

At its launch, he noted that the city is faced with ageing water infrastructure and sewage pipes in need of replacement.

Ramaphosa also expressed his disappointment with the poor state of Johannesburg in March.

And in response, he launched a presidential working group to accelerate service delivery.

Presidency spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, explained Friday’s visit: “The programme unites entities and prominent CEOs from Johannesburg and aims to expedite urban renewal, enhance service delivery, and restore dignity within high-priority precincts.”

Magwenya added that the initiative demonstrates government’s shared stance on accountability.
