The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a weather warning for extreme weather conditions expected from the weekend in the central and eastern parts of the country.
The national forecaster said that the harsh weather is expected to bring heavy downpours, severe thunderstorms which may could in flooding, dangerous driving conditions and a large amount of hail.
Meteorologist Andre Fourie is cautioning residents in parts of North West, Free State, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga to exercise extreme caution.
"This is due to a cut of low-pressure system that will affect the country from Saturday through to Monday. The possible resulting impacts include the flooding of settlements, and other properties. Dangerous driving conditions, damage to infrastructure as well as the disruption of essential services."
