Blue-haired sensation Moonchild Sanelly celebrates her 38th birthday this week and says she's ready for everything the new year has in store for her.
The singer/songwriter who put out her third album Full Moon earlier this year has collaborated with big names including Beyonce, Wizkid and Gorillaz.
Of her rise to fame she said: "I'm exactly where I want to be. Every time I clock something, I'm ready for my next one."
Moonchild said she was privileged to grow up in a house where art was seen. She choreographed dances to the Spice Girls' music, sang in church and taught herself to play the piano. "I was allowed to be expressive."
Still, the 37-year-old admitted to running away from home. This made her recent R150,000 win on SABC's Deal or No Deal Celebrity SA all the sweeter, as the money was donated to U-turn - a charity helping the homeless.
"Just knowing that there's spaces like that for people - when they don't have the drive - to fall back on... Especially when they take you back when you relapse... They don't just leave you hanging."
Moonchild said the number 20 came to her when she was having her make-up done before the gameshow and she stuck with it because her birthday is on 20 November.
"I had to trust because there's no math to it."
She's staying home in SA for the December holidays but no doubt that creative brain of hers won't take a break. "I just love what I do... I'm always working. It's home for me."
