Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has lauded the South African government for throwing its weight behind the people of Palestine.
The Turkish leader made these comments while addressing the media after the conclusion of the G20 summit at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon.
He said South Africa demonstrated remarkable courage when it took Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over allegations of genocide in Gaza.
Erdoğan added that even when South Africa faced criticism on the global stage, he was pleased that it did not bow to international pressures.
“I greatly value South Africa’s principled and unwavering support for the Palestinian cause over the years. Türkiye too has fearlessly stood by the Palestinian cause, defending the rights of the people of Gaza at every platform.”
He said a two-state solution remains the only viable path to securing freedom for the Palestinian people in the ongoing Israel–Hamas conflict.
“While ensuring the continuation of the ceasefire, it is of paramount importance to implement the two-state solution for a lasting settlement.”
