Floyd Shivambu’s Afrika Mayibuye Movement said the resignation of its deputy president, Robert Nwedo, was “unexpected”.
Nwedo recently quit the newly formed party after just two months into the position.
In his resignation letter, Nwedo said he will be focusing his time on his trade union, MAWUSA (Maanda Ashu Workers Union of South Africa).

Nwedo’s resignation as Afrika Mayibuye Movement’s deputy president comes exactly a month after Nolubabalo Mcinga was fired as its second deputy president.
The exits of two senior leaders have fuelled suspicions of factional infighting in the newly formed political party.
Mayibuye’s spokesperson, Sydney Baloyi, said Nwedo resignation came unexpectedly; however, the party’s current focus is on its inaugural national convention in December.
Baloyi said the filling of leadership vacancies will be made either at the convention or after it.
In the meantime, Mayibuye is set to hold a fundraising gala dinner on Friday, where tickets to sit with its deputy president were selling for R1.5 million.
“Robert Nwedo has informed the Mayibuye officials of his decision to resign from his position as the deputy president of Afrika Mayibuye Movement. He stated in the same letter that he has resolved to build something outside of Mayibuye.
“Whilst this came a little unexpectedly for us, it is important to share with you that Mayibuye is currently single-mindedly focused on our first national convention, happening from 5th until 7th December. A decision on the filling of vacant positions, including the one occasioned by this resignation, will either be made then or after,” said Baloyi.
