The Democratic Alliance in Tshwane says it will be opening a fraud case against Deputy Mayor Eugene Modise following the release of a forensic investigation report which found he unethically benefitted from a company currently doing business with the municipality.
The report said Modise claimed rental income from leasing out one of his properties to Triotic Protection Services.
Modise used to be one of the company’s directors, however, he resigned in February 2023, a few weeks before he became a PR councillor for the African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane.
The report said Modise breached several sections of the councillors’ code of conduct by not properly disclosing his financial interest in the company.
DA caucus chief whip, Jacqui Uys, said Modise abused his position as both deputy mayor and finance MMC.
"The DA will launch a case of fraud against Modise, the investigative report confirms Modise unlawfully benefits from a contract between the municipality and Triotic Protection Services."
