Al-Jama-ah councillor in Johannesburg, Kabelo Gwamanda, has defended the party’s decision to withdraw its motion of no confidence against mayor Dada Morero.
Gwamanda withdrew the motion against his successor in council on Tuesday, just moments before councillors were scheduled to vote on Morero's possible removal.
Al-Jama-ah had initially sought to oust the mayor, accusing him of failing to consult coalition partners on key decisions.
However, after meeting with Morero, Gwamanda said the party has opted to address its concerns through a different platform.
“In that particular meeting, he was able to provide a possible solution on how the issues we’ve raised can be mitigated. And mitigated not through dialogue but also through proposals that Al-Jama-ah and other parties would like to present.”
