Former Ekurhuleni city manager Imogen Mashazi has conceded that she failed to take action against suspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) chief Isaac Mapiyeye.

Mashazi, continuing with her testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on Tuesday morning, has admitted she sat on the panel to appoint Mapiyeye as the chief of police in 2020.

But despite having allegedly received numerous complaints of sexual harassment and abuse by EMPD women officers against Mapiyeye, Mashazi claims she never made the panellists aware about such allegations.

“I failed to discipline chief of police in terms of council processes and the code of conduct for senior managers. I also accept the fact that I failed to play an oversight role on him as HOD [head of department].”
