Suspended Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu will reappear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Thursday morning.

Mchunu briefly testified for two hours before the commission, sitting in Pretoria, on Tuesday.

He started by outlining his decision to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), claiming they were unlawful in their continued operations and were in breach of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

During his testimony on Tuesday, Mchunu emphasised the PKTT was only temporary and should have been disbanded a long time ago.

“The initial mandate of the PKTT was for actually six months and not six years - six months.”

He claims the task team was irregular in terms of the PFMA.

“Budget had to be found from other programmes, even during extensions, to fund it. It had to be subjected to regular assessments and costs had to be calculated each time there had to be an extension.”
