The Border Management Authority (BMA) has successfully intercepted millions of rands worth of clothing, vehicles and drugs during the second quarter of the year.

During a media briefing held in Pretoria on Sunday morning, the BMA delivered a detailed report outlining the work done by its officials over three months.

The BMA's Commissioner, Michael Masiapato, highlighted a significant achievement that 15 suspected stolen vehicles linked to criminal syndicates were intercepted as they were being smuggled out of the country.

These latest recoveries bring the total number of vehicles intercepted since 2022 to 349.

Officials also confiscated counterfeit clothing and footwear valued at approximately R1 million.

Masiapato confirmed that drugs and other illegal goods continue to be discovered at the country's borders.

"In this period, the officers once again intercepted half a kilogram of crystal meth, 240 grams of heroin, as well as illicit cigarettes to the value of R827,500," he stated.

Masiapato attributed the increasing success in halting illicit trade to tighter operations at border points.
