The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has not ruled out the possibility of severe thunderstorms for Gauteng this evening as bad weather persists in parts of the province.
This follows a Yellow Level 2 warning issued for Gauteng, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga. The warning includes the risk of thunderstorms with heavy downpours leading to localised flooding in low-lying areas.
Forecaster Luthandho Masimini confirmed that the warning remains in place.
“We’re still not ruling out some thunderstorms to still happen, especially for the Gauteng area, Limpopo, then Western Mpumalanga, Free State and North West. It's this evening that we're expecting those storms to subside, after 8pm or 9pm or so,” Masimini said.
Masimini added that similar weather conditions are expected to persist tomorrow as well, although KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is currently excluded from the official warning.
“No warning issued for KZN. The warning is still there for the southern and eastern parts of the Northwest, the eastern and northern parts of Free State, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the western part of the Limpopo,” he clarified.
