Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela said that she’s been advised by a specialist to speak out about a possible security breach at her Stellenbosch property in the event something should happen to her.
Madonsela on Wednesday spoke out about the dispute involving the estate of her late partner, Richard Foxton, who died in June following media reports that Madonsela said have falsely portrayed her and the Foxton family.

She said there’s been attempts by the executors of the estate to slander her, evict her from one of their shared homes, and to deny her almost 10-year relationship with Foxton.
Madonsela said a property bought at the town in 2021 was intended to be her home while she’s working and eventually, possibly, her retirement home.
But she’s now suggested an executor of Foxton’ estate may have illegally gained access to the property to have it re-evaluated from R7.5 million six months ago to R10 million.
“The thought of someone having been to my house without me or anyone authorised present left a chilling effect on my family.”
She said Foxton trusted the disputed executors with his financial affairs and attempts to evict her from their shared Johannesburg home was not done at the behest of his adult children.
“The eviction notice was not a court order delivered discreetly by a court sheriff. It was a chilling posting in a family WhatsApp group.”
Madonsela is disputing the validity of a 2025 will submitted to the master of the court and is asking the high court to remove its current executors.
She said suggestions that she’s in a dispute with Foxton’s family over his estate have been “perplexing”.
