The Stormers are back home this weekend as United Rugby Championship action continues, hosting the Lions in Cape Town on Saturday, with kick-off at 15:30.

It will be the team’s first home match in several months, with the Stormers tipped as favourites following a strong run of form that has made them one of the standout South African sides this season.

Freelance rugby journalist Jan de Koning said the Stormers’ resurgence is rooted in renewed determination, sharper execution and a more confident style of play.

He added that improved kicking, territorial control, and an attacking approach driven by enjoyment and belief have set them apart from their rivals in recent weeks.

“They’re definitely the pride of South Africa at the moment. They play with guts and determination—something that’s lacking in some of the other teams. They are the standout team and the favourites.”

Meanwhile, in Durban, the Sharks host the Bulls on Saturday at 18:00, with the home side expected to capitalise on the Bulls’ struggles.

De Koning noted that the Sharks’ recentwin and the Bulls’ current instability could prove decisive as both teams look to gain momentum in week seven of the competition.

“I’m going to put a few cents on the Sharks because the Bulls are in dire straits. It’s been a while since the Bulls have been in so much trouble.”
