Border authorities seize 80 illegally imported sneakers at Lebombo border post

The Border Management Authority (BMA) has seized 80 illegally imported sneakers at the Lebombo border post.

A man who was travelling with Nike branded sneakers was intercepted by authorities.

BMA deputy commissioner Mmemme Mogotsi said, “Border management officials intercepted more than 80 Nike pair of sneakers from an individual attempting to enter them into the Republic of South Africa illegally.”

Police also arrested one individual.

“One individual suspected of facilitating illegal migration was also intercepted, arrested and charged for aiding and abetting in accordance with the Immigration Act in this regard.”

BMA said over 18,000 people were processed on Christmas, day with no major interceptions due to heightened monitoring.
