An Eastern Cape man has gone missing in the surf zone while cray fishing at Banana Beach, in Mdumbi.
The National Sea Rescue Institute says lifeguards responded to a distress call for the 31-year-old, who was caught in a rip current.
But he disappeared underwater before they could reach him.
NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says lifeguards are assisting police with the search.
"Despite extensive search efforts, there remains no sign of the missing man. Thoughts and care are with the family and friends of the missing man in this difficult time," Lambinon said.
