The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Education on Wednesday said that all schools would be able to reopen when the 2026 academic programme resumes next week.

The province, which often faced harsh weather conditions that at times had a devastating impact on schools, said all institutions are in a state of readiness.

KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka conducted oversight visits at some schools in Ladysmith that had already begun teaching and learning.

"We will continue with this programme and visit other districts to ensure that we have a proper plan of the reopening of our schools.

"That is why two days ago we had a meeting with the management to present a report about the reopening of schools."

He added that teaching and learning would continue as planned.

“We are certain that all schools across the province will be opened, and teaching and learning will start as planned next week, and there will be no disruption of teaching and learning.”
