Damage caused by Mpumalanga floods estimated to be around R2bn

The extent of damage as a result of inclement weather conditions in Mpumalanga is currently estimated to be around R2 billion as disaster management teams continue with mop-up operations.

Government officials are braving the continuous rain, collating information in affected areas.
Cooperative Governance and Human Settlements MEC Speed Mashilo has confirmed officials have compiled a preliminary report.
“The report presented yesterday suggests that we need over R2 billion to rectify some of the problems that we are faced with.”
Mashilo has praised humanitarian organisations that have assisted.
“Where we are we need help; we must appreciate the Gift of the givers and other business communities in the area who came in support in programme we’ve put up to assist our families and communities in the areas,” Mashilo added.
