Six of the eight Milnerton High School learners charged with various counts of assault to do grievous bodily harm could soon be expelled from the school.

The eight learners made their second appearance in Cape Town Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has since confirmed that the school's governing body has made a recommendation for six of the learners to be expelled.

A Milnerton High School disciplinary hearing for eight learners, each charged with eight counts of assault to do grievous bodily harm, has reached its conclusion.

WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond said the school's disciplinary committee recommended that six of the learners be expelled.

"The recommendation documents were sent to the WCED last week and will now be considered by the head of department of the Western Cape Education Department." 

Hammomd said five of the six learners who face expulsion are in grade 12, and the other is in Grade 10.

She added that an outcome for one of the eight learners is still pending, while a sanction was provided for another learner who was not recommended for expulsion.
