Planning and Evaluation Minister Maropeng Ramokgopa said that the government’s structural reforms in the energy, logistics, and industrial sectors were beginning to pay off.
Ramokgopa said investments worth R44.2 billion had been secured, including projects in automotive manufacturing and battery minerals.
The minister was giving a progress report on the government’s economic reforms.
She said while economic growth was still below what was needed to tackle the high unemployment rate, developments showed the economy was heading in the right direction.
"We are saying South Africa’s progress under the MDTP shows clear improvements in energy stability, tourism recovery, industrial growth and social protections," Ramokgopa said. "However, deep structural constraints, particularly in local government, logistics, youth unemployment, and spatial development, continue to impede inclusive growth".
