The cause of death of an eight-year-old Grade 3 pupil at Klapmuts Primary School in the Western Cape remains a mystery following a tragic incident on school grounds.
The young boy died during school hours on Friday morning. While the exact circumstances surrounding the event are currently unknown, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has officially launched an investigation to determine the cause of death.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has urged the public to refrain from speculating about the incident while formal investigations are underway.
Department spokesperson Kerry Mauchline confirmed that counselling support has been deployed to the school to assist grieving pupils and staff members.
Addressing rumours currently circulating on digital platforms, Mauchline emphasised the need for factual accuracy.
"We have noted social media speculation that an electricity connection was involved; however, this has not been confirmed, and the cause of death has not been determined," Mauchline stated.
"So, we appeal to the public not to spread unconfirmed information and rumours."
