The Western Cape Education Department said that it will be applying for leave to appeal a Labour Court ruling that reinstated former Heathfield High principal, Wesley Neumann.
The principal's dismissal in 2020 was recently overturned, and it was reduced to a final written warning.
However, the department said the court made errors, and this is why they are appealing.
Education MEC David Maynier said, "The filing of this application suspends the order to reinstate Wesley Neumann as principal of Heathfield High School. In our application, we argue that the court committed multiple legal and factual errors in reviewing the Education Labour Relations Council's arbitration award."
Maynier added that Neumann failed to honour his contractual obligation to provide teaching and learning to children.
"We will remain focused on the best interests of the learners at Heathfield High School. The school is flourishing and has just produced the school's highest matric pass rate in 15 years,s and any attempt to disrupt this progress or to interfere with teaching and learning will not be tolerated."
