A minibus taxi driver was on Monday arrested for drunk driving outside a primary school in Katlehong.

The taxi was transporting commuters on Monday morning when it was stopped by police because the driver was driving with his door open.

Traffic police arrested the driver when they realised he was more than three times over the legal limit.

Transport authorities were in the area conducting an inspection of scholar transport operators at Ntuthuko Primary School.

An officer said they were also stopping other vehicles to check for roadworthiness.

"As a professional driver, his limit is supposed to be under 0.10 [but] he was found to be 0.37. The second charge he is facing is failing to fix both his number plates on his motor vehicle, hence he has been arrested and is being taken to the nearest police station," the officer said.
