The Premier Soccer League mid-season transfer window ends at midnight on Thursday (29 January), giving teams another chance to strengthen their squads ahead of the crucial second half of the season.
Mamelodi Sundowns made major moves with the signings of Monnapule Saleng from Orlando Pirates, Khulumani Ndamane from TS Galaxy, and Brayan Leon from Independiente Medellin.
Sports editor Mthokozisi Dube said the team may have challenges with balance, but a good coach will play an integral role.
“Sundowns is a very good squad, they may just need a coach that will be able to get the best out of the players that they have. Currently, when you look at how they have performed under Miguel Cardosa, you get the sense that they’ve regressed a bit.”
Orlando Pirates made three additional signings: Andre de Jong (Stellenbosch FC), Daniel Msendami, and Mpho Chabatsane (Marumo Gallants).
“For a January transfer window, I think they have done fairly well,” said Dube.
He praised the signings made by Stellenbosch FC, particularly the versatility of Wonderboy Makhubu from Sekhukhune United.
“There is a new broom at Stellenbosch, with Steve Barker leaving, and Gavin Hunt coming in.”
