US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that ‘time is running out’ to negotiate a deal on its nuclear programme.

Trump said a ‘massive armada’ was ‘moving quickly, with great power, enthusiasm, and purpose’ towards Iran, referring to the increasing US military presence in the Gulf.

“It is seemingly all about pressuring Iran into doing a deal not to do weapon-grade enrichment for its nuclear programme,” said world news correspondent Adam Gilchrist.

Iran has repeatedly denied accusations by the US that it is looking to develop nuclear weapons, insisting that its nuclear programme is entirely peaceful.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has, however, said that the country's armed forces were ready ‘with their fingers on the trigger’, and it would ‘immediately and powerfully respond’.
