The GOOD Party in George is calling on the police to tell the public how far they are with their investigation into the George building collapse.
Thirty-four construction workers were killed and 28 others seriously injured when a multi-storey building caved in on 75 Victoria Street, in the George CBD, on 6 May 2024.
A search-and-rescue operation of the 62 artisans buried underneath 6,000 tonnes of rubble lasted 11 days.
The site was then handed over to the police to investigate the cause of the disaster.
At the beginning of November 2025, police indicated that they expect to wrap up their investigation by the end of that month.
At the time, they explained that a warning statement from the principal engineer, Athol Mitchell, and a statement from an employee from the National Home Builders Regulatory Council, who was not mentally fit to submit the statement at the time, were still outstanding.
GOOD Party's George Councillor, Chantelle Kyd, said it's unacceptable that a year after the completion of the forensic investigation report, there's been no justice for the victims and their families.
"This silence is deeply troubling. A forensic report that gathers dust does not serve the public interest. Lives were lost because systems meant to protect the public failed."
She said her party will not allow this matter to fade from public memory.
