Questions were raised before the Madlanga Commission on Wednesday over why a Gauteng cop sent a warrant of arrest for someone else to alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi “cat” Matlala.
The arrest warrant is related to controversial entertainment blogger Musa Khawula.
According to testimony by witness F, Matlala knew the places Khawula frequented, and therefore, he was furnished with the arrest warrant.
Charges related to the Cyber Crimes Act, crime injuria, and hate speech were allegedly registered against Musa Khawula by businessman Ze Nxumalo in 2024.
But pressure to arrest Khawula only gained traction after the controversial entertainment blogger allegedly insulted ANC secretary general, Fikile Mbalula, in one of his posts.
Just weeks prior to a warrant of arrest being issued for Khawula, he had been asking questions about Vusimuzi “cat” Matlala’s business and personal life.
Witness F, a member of Gauteng organised crime, confessed that he was placed under pressure to arrest Khawula and also sent the arrest warrant to Matlala, even though the case had nothing to do with the alleged criminal kingpin.
Madlanga, co-commissioner, advocate Sesi Baloyi, questioned witness F for this decision.
Baloyi: "Do you accept that this warrant doesn’t authorise Mr Matlala to affect an arrest because he’s not a peace officer. Can you accept that at least?
Witness F: "I accept that."
Witness F will continue with his testimony on Friday.
